Movie of a pod of false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens) encountered near Cano Island, Costa Rica. We have minimal control over how close the boatmen get to these animals. The propeller marks on some of these whales indicate that we were indeed too close. Movie shot by our course TA using a GoPro camera both above and below water. I edited the raw video and slowed the playback of underwater closeups to 25% speed. Music is Waterslide by Tony Furtado.
Reed, at night in the rain, providing scale for a Xanthasoma undipes (Araceae) plant. Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve, Costa Rica.
Idalus perlineosa (Arctiidae). A lovely moth in pinstripes. It came to a black light at night at the Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve, near San Ramon, Costa Rica.
